Market engagement sought for redevelopment of historic Buttermarket by Bassetlaw District Council

Bassetlaw District Council seek to use £1.2m grant to provide a new culinary focused venue at the Buttermarket and Retford Town Hall.

Established in 1246 as a trading centre, the historical market redevelopment is not without controversy: Traders face ejection from the site and outrage has been sparked at plans to replace them with a Food Hall following community consultation in 2023. The area now faces much debate with petitions from traders hoping to save their market.

This soft market testing and engagement with relevant and experienced providers hopes to provide an opportunity to contribute to the redevelopment.
