The Department for Transport have released land and properties from the cancelled High Speed 2 [Deadline 22 October 2025]
HS2 is seeking advice on disposal of land from West Midlands to Leeds with a tender notice issue seeking a delivery agent to manage the land and properties from the cancelled HS2 Phase 2 development.
The £8.5m tender likely relates to the 530 properties purchased for Phase 2 works. Land purchased between West Midlands and Manchester is not for sale, suggesting this phase of the project may still be under review.
Cancelled in October 2023, the Phase 2b land stretches from the West Midlands to Leeds and has been released by the Department of Transport. They are now seeking a delivery agent to provide advice and control during the planned disposal of the residential, agricultural and commercial properties.
The agent will be expected to work closely with the Department for Transport, HS2 Ltd and various advisors.
The proposed scheme has left much of the land in limbo. Many were unable to sell their homes due to proximity to the planned route, and some areas were acquired against owners’ wishes. The route passed protected sites and wildlife corridors, and the fate of the Western leg is still unknown.
