The team will deliver 300+ apartments for a vacant brownfield site in Cardiff’s waterfront district [Tender announcement 6 July 2026]
Cardiff council is seeking to an architect-led multi-disciplinary design team for a mixed-use development at the site of Pierhead Street, Butetown.
The appointed design team will develop a vision for the 0.88ha vacant brownfield site to produce a residential-led plan as part of the council’s housebuilding programme.
Project management, detailed programmes, risks and scheme updates will be included in the works up to and including RIBA Stage 2.
The goal is to deliver 300-350 apartments – 200 private rent and 150 social rent – at this site within Cardiff Bay’s waterfront district.
As part of the delivery, consideration must be taken to Cardiff’s Crossrail project which has seen Transport for Wales identify the site as an option for a Metro station.
It is estimated that the tender notice will be announced on 6 July 2026 via the Proactis Portal.
